About The Club

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote youth development, confidence, leadership, health and public stewardship through mountain biking and positive outdoor experience and to create a foundation for lifelong cycling enjoyment.

Icicle Bicycle Club is a volunteer led, middle school and high school mountain biking team welcoming all students from the greater Leavenworth/upper valley area. These students train 2-3 times per week as a team and race in up to 5 races throughout the state in the Washington Student Cycling League.

Club History

Icicle Bicycle Club (IBC) was founded by Travis Blue out of his love for mountain biking in 2013 with 14 middle school and high school student-athletes. Year after year, IBC has continued to grow in student-athlete participation. Every season 20-40 student-athletes are led by certified coaches and parent volunteers. IBC is part of the Washington Student Cycling League (WSCL), participating against 25 other teams in five races throughout the state each spring.

Wondering what a season with Icicle Bicycle Club entails?

Here are some tips and suggestions to help orient you.

Icicle Bicycle is a family affair!  While not required of parents to participate, the club cannot operate without the help of many hands.  There are no paid positions in Icicle Bicycle, so any help is appreciated. There are many ways to get involved whether you bike or not.

Schedule:  The team meets at the Leavenworth Ski Hill 2-3 days/week for practice.  Practices vary from skills and drills in the base area to longer rides on the surrounding trails.  All practices are designed to develop stronger, confident, and more competent riders.  Riders will develop skills to compete in the league races whether they choose to participate or not.

The season is peppered with many traditions that have been cherished throughout the years!  A few of the favorites are the scavenger hunt, poker ride, taco feast, and relay race.

One of the highlights are race weekends.  Races are on Sundays with a course pre-ride option on Saturday afternoons.  Depending on the location, this usually encourages families to camp out together on Saturday night…potluck, campfire, and smores!

Some things to consider:

Practices creep up quick, and we want to make sure you and your student will be ready for the first day.  Some important things to consider in the next few weeks are:

  1. Equipment
Over winter, chains can get rusty, and components get dry so we recommend you take a look at the bike your student will be riding to identify any problems that need to be fixed. Also, helmets are mandatory. Check to make sure it still fits and is still safe to wear. Early season weather can be cold and riders should dress warmly and also carry water.  Please make sure your rider is prepared!
  2. Transportation to practices and races
Practices start at 3:30 which doesn’t give students much time to get home, change, take a bite of a snack, and get all their gear. Please make sure your student gets to Ski Hill on time. Contact the head coach if something comes up. We don’t stay in the base area very long after practice starts but we will wait if we need to.The team does not shuttle students to the races. Parents must find transportation for them. More information about race times will come.
  3. Parents and Coaches Meeting
We will be having a team meeting a couple of weeks before practices start. You will get the chance to ask questions, meet the team coaches and other parents, and learn how you can help the team.
