Who can participate in the Washington Student Cycling League?

Students in grades 6 through 12 are eligible to participate.

My son/daughter is in 5th grade and really wants to participate. Can they?

Currently, IBC is only open to 6th through 12th grade students.

I am new to mountain biking, is it hard to learn?

We have riders join us at every level starting with beginners to seasoned competitors. It is helpful to have some prior experience riding on single track dirt trails. Our coaches have been trained to work with student athletes of all ability levels.

What equipment is required?

Student riders must provide their own bike and helmet. If you need help in obtaining these items, your coach may be of some assistance.

What kind of bike do I need?

You will need access to a geared mountain bike, as designated by the manufacturer, designed for off-road biking.  The mountain bike needs to be in good working order and can safely be ridden on wet, bumpy, muddy, rocky and sandy single-track dirt trails. If you are interested in evaluating your bike to make sure it is appropriate for this program, please contact the club before the start of the season.

Teams

Yes! As a homeschool student he/she may join the Icicle Bicycle Club.

As the parent of an enrolled student rider, can I go on the team rides and practices?

Every practice group must have a certified coach to ride with the students. The club always welcomes extra help at practice. If you plan on actively participating with the team, we recommend that you register as a coach. Your registration fee will be reimbursed.

Volunteer

I want to volunteer; how can I help?

Help with a team. There are many roles and responsibilities on each team and as you can imagine – it takes a village! We have a head coach, assistant coaches, a team manager, and treasurer. You can help with team tasks such as providing food, transportation, camping logistics at races, fundraising, and more. Interested? Contact the Team Manager or Coach.

Volunteer at one of our races. Jump into the action and assist with race logistics by helping with staging, scoring, monitoring the course to ensure that riders are safe, or managing riders cross the finish line. Races require approximately 50 volunteers each weekend so we couldn’t put these events on without your help! Saturday and Sunday positions are available, and sign-ups are easy through the league before race weekends.
